The purpose of the Jews going back to the land of Israel

Arno Froese

“When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there” (Ezekiel 39:27-28).

The purpose of the Jews going back to the land of Israel is revealed with the words: “Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God.” When will that happen? After the Church has been raptured into the presence of the Lord. God will turn to Israel for spiritual reasons; namely, their recognition of the God of Israel.

The removal of the Church is supported by 2 Thessalonians 2:7: “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.” The words, “only he who now letteth…” refer to the Holy Spirit dwelling in the Church. Peter writes, “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5). This spiritual house, the spiritual temple wherein dwelleth the Holy Spirit, must be taken out of the way in order for God to do a new thing with Israel, which will be witnessed by all the nations of the world.

Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit in John 16:7: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” In plain words, Jesus had to depart in order for the Comforter to come to earth. That’s true in the opposite direction: Jesus cannot come back to earth until the spiritual temple, indwelt by the Comforter, is raptured into His presence.

We know that after the rapture, there will be a seven-year tribulation; it’s called the Great Tribulation. During those years, the world will experience the greatest deception ever. How? Through peace, prosperity, and security. This previously never experienced success for all the nations of the world, will virtually guarantee the acceptance of the false god, the false christ: the Antichrist. That deception is global, and Israel is included as well, because Jesus said: “I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive” (John 5:43).

It seems unfortunate that most respected Bible scholars speak of chaos, turmoil, bloodshed, and destruction, when dealing with the prophetic Word. Of course, that will follow after the good times have reached their climax. But deception can only be accomplished by good times, prosperous times, peaceful times, secure times. That is what Antichrist’s aim is. When we compare our times with that of 50 or 100 years ago, we immediately recognize that peace, prosperity, and security is more real than ever before for humanity. Most nations on planet earth live in relative peace even now.

Antichrist has to appear as a man of peace—who causes abundant prosperity and unity among the nations of the world as never before—in order to falsely appropriate the title prince of peace.

We mostly do not have scientific, physical evidence of God’s interference with Israel at this time. But from a Biblical prophetic level, we recognize that God is at work though behind the scenes. Israel is for us a miracle, and the whole world is witness to that fact. There has never been a people dispersed throughout the world for 2,000 years and which kept their identity; that went back to the country of their fathers, facing overwhelming opposition, even destruction from the Arab neighbors, and yet came out each time victoriously. That is nothing short of a miracle. At this point in time, Israel is the leading nation when it comes to water conservation, agricultural science, computer technology, medical science, and many other areas. But all that has a purpose: bringing them back to the land, so in the end they will recognize the Lord God of Israel.

We must also highlight that the introductory Scripture ends, “…and have left none of them any more there.” That means all Jews from all nations of the world will return to the land of Israel.

That’s the reason why we strongly support the nation and the people. We pray for them, and we act upon the command we read of in Isaiah 40:1-2: “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.” Israel has a glorious future, and so does the Church. Which is why we should concern ourselves more and more with Holy Scripture, realizing that the book from Genesis to Revelation is a Jewish book. We as Gentiles have been added to it, as Ephesians 2:19 documents: “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God.”
