Absent from the Body

Dear Sir,When Jesus was on the cross and the thief asked for forgiveness, the Lord said he would be with Him today in Paradise.Thessalonians talks about the Rapture and says the dead in Christ will rise first, then we will follow. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Who are the dead in Christ? -R. Trejo, CA

Arno's Answer:

You already answered your question with the quotation, “Absent from the body…present with the Lord.”  That speaks of the born-again spirit/soul.  Born-again believers will continue to die until the Rapture.  At that point, they and we will receive our new, eternal and glorified body. “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
