Eternal Security

Hi,

I’ve enjoyed your magazine for two years. I may not agree with every point, but it’s very well written and gives a person much to think about and dwell on. I especially enjoyed your book on Daniel and highly recommend it for anyone who desires a deeper knowledge of the Word.

Question: You believe strongly in the doctrine of eternal security. How then do you explain Matthew 24:45-51? “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
-M. Evans, FL

Answer: Matthew 24:45-51 does not relate to eternal security. Although this is not expressly called a parable, it is in fact. Servants should be ready at any moment; subsequently, they “give meat in due season” to the flock, and therefore will be rewarded. The servant who does not wait—“and to eat and drink with the drunken,” instead of feeding the flock “in due season”—shall lose any and all rewards.
1 Corinthians 3:15 reads, “…he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
