More on 23 Minutes in Hell
Dear Sir,I am a subscriber and have learned a lot by your insight and study in the Word of God.Regarding your answer to the letter, “23 Minutes in Hell,” May issue: I don’t understand First Peter 1:8, because Jesus clearly said in John 14:21, that to anyone who loves Him, He will show, reveal, manifest himself to him/her. He will let Himself be clearly seen to them. -C. Hendrick, NY
Arno's Answer:
John 14:21 does not contradict 1 Peter 1:8. The word “manifest” does not mean to make Jesus visible to me, but to declare, inform, and signify the true Jesus. John 16:13-14 applies, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.” Note the words, “He shall glorify me.” There is no indication here that Jesus will be made visible in the flesh to a believer. Such claims are always the result of a false belief. The Apostle Paul also confirms this in 2 Corinthians 5:16, “Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.” Therefore, anyone who claims to have seen Jesus in the flesh or insists that Jesus spoke to him/her, is harboring a false belief.
