No Temple Needed
Dear Mr. Froese,Why didn’t the God of Heaven tell David and his son Solomon that “Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? And where is the place of my rest?” (Isaiah 66:1). “Ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16).Isaiah seems to be written before David and Solomon’s time.If Isaiah knew this, why didn’t David and Solomon? Why the earthly temple? The more my wife and I read and study our Bible, the more questions we have.It is good to have answers to questions. God bless you. -J. Spencer, OH
Arno's Answer:
The earthly temple is an image of the heavenly. Hebrews 9–10 gives more details about it. God’s intention is to establish His kingdom on earth.
Israel was chosen to visibly demonstrate that it was impossible for fallen man to please God. Thus, in the fullness of time, Jesus came and created the possibility for the rebirth. The reborn person is just the same as anyone else walking on earth, but when he dies, he is in the presence of the Lord. Thus it will be with planet Earth and heaven (see 2 Peter 3:11-13).
In the New Jerusalem, the temple is not needed, “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it” (Revelation 21:22).
