Predestination

Dear Sir,I just read an article, “The Right Rules of Conduct” by Norbert Lieth. Near the end of the article, he says the redemption of Jesus was accomplished for all men. Nobody is excluded or specially elected. This is my belief. I have been a Southern Baptist for 70 years. All of a sudden in the last two years, they have tried to jam down our throats predestination and election, which I disagree on. What are your thoughts on this subject?-D. Cunningham, GA

Arno's Answer:

Predestination from God’s perspective is supported in Holy Scripture. For example, God knows if a child born today will accept Jesus as his or her personal Savior. For God, there is no past, present, or future; it’s all eternally one.

If we take a one-sided view about predestination, we may lay down our work and say God has predestined everything. Yet Scripture admonishes us repeatedly to work while it is day, to be salt and light, to witness, to be a servant worthy of one’s calling. If free will is supplanted by predestination, then it is actually a false teaching.
