Seeing the Coming Kingdom

Dear Arno Froese, I would like your comment on this Scripture: Matthew 16:28 NIV, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”I looked in a Bible commentary, and some thought Jesus was talking about the Transfiguration, while others thought he was talking about the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. I think he was talking about his persecution.-W. Estes, OK

Arno's Answer:

Matthew 16:28 refers to the Apostle John, who saw the Lord “coming in His kingdom.” He clearly identifies Jesus in Revelation 1:7-19. The coming of His kingdom is described in Revelation 19, particularly verse 15, “out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations.” John saw it all.

The reason for the confusion lies in the assumption that prophecy in general and Revelation in particular is to be strictly viewed in chronological order. That overlooks the fact that in the presence of the Lord, past, present, and future do not exist; He is the one from eternity to eternity.
