EUROPE - ‘Immigration Invasion’

Arno Froese

‘Immigrant invasion,’ the ‘rush to Europe,’ the ‘great replacement’—a spectre is haunting the West, the spectre of people seeking social housing and benefits. But who are these immigrants? Where are they going, and what are they escaping? Why do they take such great risks? Political leaders in the UK, France, Italy, the US and Australia dodge these questions, not to mention their own responsibility for the deterioration of public debate and living conditions around the world.

On one side, we have the free flow of goods and capital; on the other, we have ever more obstacles to the flow of people. We build walls at the border. Dinghies are diverted in the Channel and the Mediterranean. Their passengers drown, yet criminal smuggling networks cash in. Almost everywhere, detention has become a mere matter of logistics, and removal one of diplomacy. Yet still they come, and will continue to come.

Arno's Commentary

Immigration, legal or illegal, is not limited to the industrialized world; it includes under-developed countries as well. Those originating in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Americas have a historic connection to Europe due to colonialization.

Developed countries actually need immigrants. A recent article published indicates that Germany alone will need at least 100,000 foreigners a year to keep their gigantic export-oriented manufacturing industry at acceptable speeds. Immigrants who are “selected” have skills, thus draining underdeveloped countries of talent. The problem seems to be insurmountable.

From Christian perspectives, the message is clear: The world will be increasingly globalized, as Daniel 12:4b reads: “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” What is the purpose? A united, global society will one day fulfill Revelation 18:9-10: “And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.” That is the future for planet earth.
