FINLAND - No ‘Gay Gene’ Found in International Study

Arno Froese

“We scanned the entire human genome and found a handful—five to be precise—of locations that are clearly associated with whether a person reports in engaging in same-sex sexual behavior,” said Andrea Ganna, a biologist at the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Finland who co-led the research.

He said these have “a very small effect” and, combined, explain “considerably less than 1% of the variance in the self-reported same-sex sexual behavior.”

This means that non-genetic factors—such as environment, upbringing, personality, nurture—are far more significant in influencing a person’s choice of sexual partner, just as with most other personality, behavioral and physical human traits, the researchers said.

The study—the largest of its kind—analyzed survey responses and performed analyses known as genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on data from more than 470,000 people who had given DNA samples and lifestyle information to the UK Biobank and to the U.S. genetics testing company 23andMeInc.

The results, published in the journal Science, found no clear patterns among genetic variants that could be used to meaningfully predict or identify a person’s sexual behavior, the researchers said.

Arno's commentary

Genesis 1:27 states, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Chapter 2, verse 24 documents: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” When it comes to the great human controversy in the end times, it is best to let Scripture speak. “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient” (Romans 1:25-28).

As the study shows, there are many contributing factors to such behavior, but the bottom line is still the free will of man. It is a free will choice, or as the group in question proudly proclaims, “preference.” The Bible, however, leaves no room for any preference outside marriage between husband and wife.
