FRANCE - No Future for Jews but Israel

Arno Froese

Grande Synagogue of Paris Chief Rabbi Moshe Sebbag cast doubt on the future of Jews in France and advocated for youth to immigrate to Israel or other countries.

“It is clear today that there is no future for Jews in France,” Sebbag told The Jerusalem Post. “I tell everyone who is young to go to Israel or a more secure country.”

“Every country has its history, and its history is part of its identity. The moment you feel part of a country’s history, it doesn’t become another country’s history,” said Sebbag. “After generations, the French Jews are very French and feel very French.”

Immigrants from other countries had come to France seeking a better life, but some had not integrated as well as the Jews, said the rabbi. France is a secular society, in which religious items are not worn at public school or by employees of a hospital.

“Many Ashkenazi Jewish families here since before World War II couldn’t think to vote for National Rally, yet the Left has been antisemitic in recent times,” said Sebbag. “The Jews are in the middle because they don’t know who hates them more.”

Arno's Commentary

In a brief analysis, it is difficult to precisely uncover the roots of antisemitism. One thing virtually all agree on is that the Jewish people are the most common target when hatred of another people is expressed.

For example, the International Court of Justice elevates the terrorist organization, Hamas, to the same level as the nation Israel. These cold-blooded Hamas murders have been educated from the cradle to hate the Jews. Any and all of their problems are blamed on the Jews. It is incomprehensible that nations such as Iran, Iraq, a dozen or so African nations, as well as many Europeans, express more sympathy for the Arab Palestinians than the Jews.

The warning of Rabbi Moshe Sebbag reminds us of revisionist Zionist leader Ze’ev Jabotinsky, who strongly influenced many Jews to escape to the land of Israel.

Reading from Jeremiah 16:15: “But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.” The return of Jews to the land of their fathers continues to this day. The prophet adds: “Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks” (verse 16).
