GERMANY - The Illuminati

Arno Froese

The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, “enlightened”) is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically, the name usually refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on 1 May 1776. The society’s goals were to oppose superstition, obscurantism, religious influence over public life and abuses of state power. “The order of the day,” they wrote in their general statutes, “is to put an end to the machinations of the purveyors of injustice, to control them without dominating them.” The Illuminati—along with Freemasonry and other secret societies—were outlawed through edict, by the Bavarian ruler, Charles Theodore, with the encouragement of the Roman Catholic Church, in 1784, 1785, 1787 and 1790. In the several years following, the group was vilified by conservative and religious critics who claimed that they continued underground and were responsible for the French Revolution.

Many influential intellectuals and progressive politicians counted themselves as members, including Ferdinand of Brunswick and the diplomat Xavier von Zwack, who was the Order’s second-in-command. It attracted literary men such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Johann Gottfried Herder and the reigning dukes of Gotha and Weimar.

In subsequent use, “Illuminati” refers to various organizations which claim or are purported to have links to the original Bavarian Illuminati or similar secret societies, though these links are unsubstantiated. They are often alleged to conspire to control world affairs, by masterminding events and planting agents in government and corporations, in order to gain political power and influence and to establish a New World Order. Central to some of the most widely known and elaborate conspiracy theories, the Illuminati have been depicted as lurking in the shadows and pulling the strings and levers of power in dozens of novels, films, television shows, comics, video games, and music videos.

Arno's commentary

The Illuminati are one of many alleged secret organizations attempting to rule the world. There are others, such as Skull and Bones, Rosicrucian, the Bilderbergers, Club of Rome, and dozens of organizations, movements, and societies.

Unfortunately, many prophecy-oriented ministries and leaders have taken it upon themselves to reinterpret prophetic Scripture, naming those so-called secret organizations. The article says, “…they [secret societies] are often alleged to conspire to control world affairs…planting agents in government and corporations…to gain political power and influence and to establish a New World Order.”

Quite obviously, nothing is further from the truth. If these conspiracy theories had some truth to them, then the question is, why have these organizations not taken over the world? The theory of conspiracy is somewhat primitive and extremely one-sided.

So, the question: is there a worldwide conspiracy? To get the right answer, we have to consult the right source; that is, Holy Scripture. Second Corinthians 4:4 reads: “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” Who is the god of this world? Jesus calls him “…the prince of this world…” (John 14:30). And 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 says: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

What is his aim? Many would answer, to rule the world. That, however, is incorrect, because he already rules the world; he has done so since he was successful in deceiving Adam and Eve.

Every single nation, throughout the history of humanity, will vehemently deny that they are subject to the god of this world. Yet Scripture makes it crystal clear: “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning” (1 John 3:8a). That should settle any question, debate, or argument about my or any other nation.

However, there is an exception, and that is the Church of Jesus Christ. Those who believe that their sin has been paid for, by Jesus Christ shedding His blood on Calvary’s Cross, are eternally forgiven. That is the body of Christ, His Church, which is found on all five continents, and in all countries on the face of the earth.

They are mostly insignificant people, exhibiting no special outward signs that they belong to the Church. But they are born-again of the Spirit of God, thus indwelled by the new nature, which is perfect. “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:9).

So, again, what is the devil’s aim? The answer: to confuse and, if possible, to destroy the Church. Satan knows prophecy; he knows there is an end for him to come. The only opposition to him is the Church of Jesus Christ on earth, for they are the light of the world, exposing Satan’s dark plans. For that reason, his enemies are not the world of nations, but the Church of Jesus Christ.

Furthermore, Satan attempts to make the whole world worship him, as if he were god. Thus, he must now—in the end times—unite the nations of the world. Once he has achieved that goal, a new religion will be implemented and exhibited through the image of the beast. That is now in the works.

Whether it’s the Illuminati, the Bilderbergers, the Club of Rome, Freemasons, etc.—we may also name the EU, the USA, the UN, and the rest of the world—all seek peace, security, and prosperity here and now on planet earth. Based on Holy Scripture, the world under the umbrella of the dragon will be successful, howbeit temporarily.

Therefore, when we read about wars and rumors of wars, natural catastrophes and riots, we have to keep in mind that these are well-organized by the god of this world for the purpose of fulfilling Psalm 2:1-3: “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” That is the real conspiracy; all others are of little value, almost worthless to mention.
