ISRAEL - Committed to Diaspora Jews

A delegation of American Jewish leaders representing the Orthodox Union met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem to discuss the need for an expansion of Israel-backed initiatives to promote Jewish identity and education in the Diaspora.

“It is time that instead of Israel receiving from the Diaspora, we [should be] giving now. We are increasing [funding by] tens of millions of dollars, but it is not enough: We need to do more,” said the prime minister, according to an OU statement.

OU President Moishe Bane expressed his satisfaction over Netanyahu’s remarks.

“I was very much encouraged by the prime minister’s commitment to Jewish students in the Diaspora. We look forward to continuing to partner with him and the State of Israel to expose all Jews to their heritage,” Bane said after the meeting.

“We were delighted to have the opportunity to explain to the prime minister how youth and adult programming [providing] greater exposure to Israel increases their Jewish identity and their attachment to the State of Israel,” OU executive vice president Allen Fagin noted., 17 July 2019

Arno's commentary

Israel is developing into a powerhouse, not only militarily, but also economically, financially, and technologically. This movement attempts to identify Jews—in this case in the USA—but parallel work is ongoing by other organizations the world over. A Jew is to know that he is a Jew, and that Israel is the Jewish state.

The ultimate goal is fulfillment of prophecy. We read in Ezekiel 34:30-31: “Thus shall they know that I the Lord their God am with them, and that they, even the house of Israel, are my people, saith the Lord God. And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God.” And chapter 37 ends with these words: “And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore” (verse 28).
