ISRAEL - Eleventh Happiest Country in the World

Arno Froese

Israelis are a happy people. Very happy, according to the United Nations’ 2017 World Happiness Report.

In fact, Israel ranks as the world’s 11th happiest country for the fourth year in a row, according to the report.

The global happiness survey ranks 155 countries on happiness and well-being.

Norway clinched first place this year, followed by Denmark (2nd), Iceland (3rd), and Switzerland (4th). Israel placed ahead of the US (14th), Germany (16th) and the UK (19th).

The UN survey is now in its fifth installment. Israel placed 14th in 2012 and then climbed to 11th place where it remains to date.

The United Nations says “happiness is considered to be the proper measure of social progress and the goal of public policy.”, 21 March 2017

Arno's commentary

For Israelis to be analyzed by criteria defining happiness, and reach spot eleven in the world, is nothing short of mind-boggling.

Of all the progressive and industrialized countries, Israel is the only one that needs to defend itself in reality. For the rest of the world, defense is mainly theory and often based on speculation.

Reaching eleventh place in the world seems to contradict the previous article we published, showing that one-third of Israelis would like to leave the country if they could. How accurate the “UN World Happiness Report” is, could also be open to speculation.

Nevertheless, Israel is the only country in the world threatened with destruction by surrounding nations, while at the same time being condemned by the United Nations more than any other country. Yet there is a positive connotation when we speak about Israel from prophetic perspectives. Moses, at the end of his life, wrote this: “Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places” (Deuteronomy 33:29).
