ISRAEL - First Domestic Quantum Computer

Arno Froese

The 20-qubit computer that utilizes advanced superconducting technology was developed under the leadership of Israel Aerospace Industries, in cooperation with the Israel Innovation Authority and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and its technology transfer company, Yissum.

“Quantum technologies are set to fundamentally elevate human capabilities across a wide range of fields; in recent years, IAI has developed initiatives in robotics, autonomy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, integrating them into our business lines, some in collaboration with startups and academia.

Arno's Commentary

For most of us, the basic principles of computer science are beyond our comprehension—more so quantum computing.

Amazon AWS explains: “Quantum computing is a multidisciplinary field comprising aspects of computer science, physics, and mathematics that utilizes quantum mechanics to solve complex problems faster than on classical computers. Quantum computers are able to solve certain types of problems faster than classical computers by taking advantage of quantum mechanical effects, such as superposition and quantum interference. Some applications where quantum computers can provide such a speed boost include machine learning (ML), optimization, and simulation of physical systems.”

Further questions are answered: “A quantum computer works using quantum principles. Quantum principles require a new dictionary of terms to be fully understood, terms that include superposition, entanglement, and decoherence” (aws.amazon.com).

How true, “quantum principles require a new dictionary.” But, as we learn on almost a daily basis, man does not cease from inquiring into things unknown heretofore.

It all began with the Industrial Revolution, which took place from 1760 to 1840, according to English historian Arnold Toynbee. However, it actually started much earlier—some 6,000 years ago, after God had created heaven and earth and all that is therein. Genesis 2:5 reports: “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.” The words, “there was not a man to till the ground,” indicate that man was to make tools to do so. Today, it’s done with modern agricultural machinery, but it’s still the same—it tills the ground, prepares for seeding, and later harvests.

Jesus declared this about the spreading of the Gospel to the whole world: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14). Mark 16:15 records: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” To fulfill that command, addressed to the believer, was all but impossible at that time. Inventions had to be made to reach all five continents, beginning with Jerusalem. However, there is a distinct purpose in our Lord’s order: not the betterment of the world, not more leisure time, comfort and luxury, but the proclamation of very certain information; namely, the Gospel to every creature. Everything else throughout the 6,000 years of history of planet earth has little to no significance. When the Gospel—the witness unto all nations—is proclaimed, “then shall the end come.”
