NORTH KOREA - Over One Million Covid Cases

K. Farmer

More than a million people have now been sickened by what Pyongyang is calling a “fever,” state media said.

Some 50 people have died, but it’s unclear how many of those suspected cases tested positive for Covid.

North Korea has only limited testing capacity, so few cases are confirmed.

The country announced its first confirmed Covid cases—although experts believe the virus has likely been circulating for some time.

It is extremely unlikely the North would ever accept help from South Korea. It will be far more palatable if the offer comes from an international organization such as the United Nations, even if that means South Korea’s supplies need to be redirected and packaged up in this way.

Commentary

The most reclusive country in the world has finally succumbed to the devastation of a widespread Covid outbreak, although as the article states, “…experts believe the virus has likely been circulating for some time.”

It appears that the government is surreptitiously letting it be known that foreign aid will be needed, as a part of the article not quoted above mentions: “…the fact that it is reporting its daily deaths and case numbers is seen as an indication that it needs and wants help.”

What this shows is that even the most tightly controlled borders cannot stop the miniscule coronavirus from plaguing its citizens. This has the potential to be a stepping-stone to opening up to other nations, as even places like North Korea won’t be able to resist the forces of globalization in the long run. Prophecy reveals that “Satan ... deceiveth the whole world” (Revelation 12:9), so that “all nations [will] drink of the wine of the wrath of her [Mystery Babylon’s] fornication” (14:8b). (By K.
