RUSSIA - Space Agency to Launch Iranian Satellite

Arno Froese

The satellite, named Khayyam, was developed and manufactured at enterprises that are part of Roscosmos, according to the agency.

The remote-sensing satellite will provide “accurate spatial data” to Iran to improve agricultural productivity, monitoring of water resources, management of natural disasters and monitoring of mines and Iran’s borders, among other uses, according to Iranian media.

Roscosmos Director General Yury Borisov discussed the current status of bilateral projects with Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.

“Recently, we have had a very intensive schedule of contacts, and I am sure that in the future we will be able to increase the pace we have already taken and will hold as many meetings as we need so that our relations will only strengthen,” said Borisov.

The two also discussed the importance of joint efforts aimed at strengthening economic and technological ties between the two countries and the possibility of supplying non-core products by Roscosmos enterprises to Iran., 3 August 2022

Arno's Commentary

Friendly relations between Russia and Persia is not surprising. Both are declared enemies of the West; thus, a closer relationship is essential to strengthen each country’s position on the global stage.

From Ezekiel 38, we know that a mighty armed force from the distant north of Israel—most scholars identify as Russia—will be joined by Persia (Iran): “And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet” (Ezekiel 38:4-5).

We notice the words “I will turn thee back.” In plain words, it means that “Gog in the land of Magog” will be doing something they had no intention of doing. That, of course, will mark the end of this military confrontation with devastating consequences, as we can read in chapters 38 and 39.

Closer friendship between Russia and Iran seems to foreshadow that which is yet to come.
