SLOVAKIA - Flying Car Takes to the Sky

Arno Froese

A flying car capable of hitting speeds over 100mph (160kmh) and altitudes above 8,000ft (2,500m) has been issued with a certificate of airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority.

The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.

It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft.

The certification followed 70 hours of flight testing and more than 200 take-offs and landings, the company said.

“AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars,” its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said.

“It is official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever.”

Arno's Commentary

Not much world news comes from Slovakia, but this nation of only 5.5 million people has quite an impressive report card when it comes to inventions.

Slovakia was or still is a place where many inventions of world importance have been invented. The most important are inventions of the parachute, helicopter, modern optics, compressed air pump, water pump, artificial human hand…

Will this air car fly? Well, it does; it’s even certified by the Slovak Transport Authority.

While there is some future for flying cars, the real obstacle that would have to be bridged—when the vehicle is in mass production and becomes popular—is aviation regulations. Doubtless, a quasi-pilot license will be required.

We are reminded of the words of Solomon: “For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (Proverbs 8:11). Wisdom is the key; it comes from God and dwells with God, as the next verse states: “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.”

What we do know is that there is no end to inventions. From the site, we find a list of the 100 greatest inventions for 2021, with the BioNTech/Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine as one of the most important in the area of health. It is of interest that this vaccine originates with Professor Uğur Şahin, MD, a Turkish immigrant to Germany, in cooperation with his wife, the daughter of immigrant parents from Turkey. The original discovery was made by Hungarian Katalin Karikó.

What comes next? As for planet earth, we really don’t know. But nothing changes regarding the eternal resolution found in Scripture: “Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?” (Amos 3:6). Isaiah 45:7 adds: “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.”
