SOMALIA - May Establish Diplomatic Relations with Israel

Arno Froese

Somalia media reports claimed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently held contacts with Israeli officials while on a trip to the United Arab Emirates, even flying to Israel, according to one report. These reports were denied.

Upon his reelection to the job in May, a Somali diplomat close to Mohamud told The Times of Israel that his return to power was a positive development for a potential normalization process between Mogadishu and Jerusalem.

In addition to developments with Somalia, Channel 12 reported that Muse Bihi Abdi, President of Somaliland, an autonomous, relatively stable region of the country, recently told US officials he was making overtures to Israel but without any response.

In May, Israel’s embassy in France organized a conference, inviting French and African journalists, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and artists to examine the future of Israeli cooperation with African countries and businesses., 9 July 2022

Arno's Commentary

The land with a 11+ million population is not an Arab country, but the official religion is Sunni Islam. Life expectancy is low: 55.7 years, and GDP per capita is only $800 (2020 estimate). Seventy-one percent of the labor force is involved in agriculture; thus, a very poor country. A relationship with Israel can only be beneficial.

There is more, of course; namely, the progressive desire for peace. This, incidentally, is evident throughout the world. Why peace? Because the god of this world, who rules all nations, will one day produce his superman—Antichrist. Under his rulership, the world will experience peace, prosperity, and security, but we repeat: just for a short time. Yet real peace will only be established when the Prince of Peace returns to the land of Israel and His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives, as documented in Zechariah 14:4: “And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.”
