UN - Secretary-General Denounces Israel’s ‘50-Year Occupation’

Arno Froese

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the five-decades-long Israeli occupation has imposed a “heavy humanitarian and development burden on the Palestinian people” and “fueled recurring cycles of violence and retribution.”

According to Guterres, the perpetuation of the occupation is also sending “an unmistakable message to generations of Palestinians that their dream of statehood is destined to remain just that, a dream; and to Israelis that their desire for peace, security and regional recognition remains unattainable.”

“Continued settlement construction and expansion; violence and incitement; and the illicit arms build-up and militant activity in Gaza risk creating a one-state reality that is incompatible with realizing the legitimate national and historic aspirations of both peoples,” Guterres added.

The secretary-general also said he believes that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will “remove a driver of violent extremism and terrorism in the Middle East and open the doors to cooperation, security, prosperity and human rights for all.”

Arno's commentary

Mr. Guterres is parroting the language that his predecessors have used, and literally the rest of the world has followed. There is an abundance of historic confirmation that Arab-Palestinians rejected the territory to build their state. The Arabs collectively rejected the partition of the land of Israel, known at the time as Palestine. Even today, the Palestinian Authority does not even recognize Israel as a state. It seems that the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has not read history. All countries, without exception, established their borders by weapons of war: winner takes all; loser loses all. That was the case when Germany lost the war against the Soviet Union. The territory where this writer’s family comes from was divided into three countries: Lithuania, Russia, and Poland. No one in their right mind would now start a “PLO” (Prussian Liberation Organization). It’s history; it’s over; it’s forgotten.

But Israel is different. The nations of the world, and particularly the United Nations, condemn themselves by not practicing what they preach. It is vain to use the “historic right” argument, without first referring to the historic rights of the Jewish people. The territory in question, from the river of Egypt to the River Euphrates, was granted to Abraham and his descendants some 4,150 years ago. That’s real history. Bible prophecy has predicted precisely that the whole world will turn against Jerusalem.
