U.S. chipmaker Intel Corp has bid $5.5-$6 billion in cash and stock to buy Israel’s Mellanox Technologies, Israeli media reported.

A $6 billion offer would represent a 35 percent premium to the last closing price of Mellanox on Nasdaq, the Calcalist financial news website said.

Based in Yokneam, Israel, Mellanox makes chips and other hardware for data center servers that power cloud computing.

In October CNBC reported that Mellanox has hired a financial adviser to explore a sale after receiving takeover interest from at least two companies.

Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon said Intel plans to invest $11 billion to expand its manufacturing operations in southern Israel., 30 January 2019

Arno's commentary

When it comes to high-tech industry, there is little doubt in anyone’s mind that Israel is racing toward world leadership. When one thinks of the complexity of the military machine—soldiers, guns, tanks, ships, and even planes—all will continue to lose significant impact in comparison with information technology.

Another article listed ten countries for possible world leadership, among which was Israel.

Given that Israel’s Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon revealed Intel’s intention to invest $11 billion in the country, it becomes clear that the leaders of the industry have total confidence in the future of Israel and her intellectual capacity.

While the prophecies found in Micah 4:3 speak of the millennium, it seems that prophetically technology is a foreshadow of the fulfillment: “And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”
