USA - Japanese Battery Factory Coming to SC
Envision AESC, a world-leading Japanese electric vehicle battery technology company, along with Governor Henry McMaster, announced it will build a state-of-the-art battery cell gigafactory in Florence County.
The $810 million-dollar investment will create 1,170 new jobs and will support the company’s partnership with BMW. The batteries will be installed in electric vehicles that will be produced at the BMW Group’s Plant [in] Spartanburg. The batteries will have 20% more energy density than the current generation, reduce charging time and increase range and efficiency for electric vehicles by 30%. The plant will be 1.5 million square feet and will be powered by 100% net zero carbon energy.
With the completion of the Florence County plant and a Kentucky plant, along with an existing plant in Tennessee, the three facilities will contribute to the U.S.’ shift to electric vehicles.

There’s no stopping the push to transition to electric vehicles, now that fossil fuels are hard to come by. With this “state-of-the-art battery cell gigafactory” coming to a small town like Florence, South Carolina—partnering with German manufacturer BMW, with a plant in another small city called Spartanburg—the global nature of the flow of merchandise is revealed.
We also see how fast technology is moving, with these batteries reducing charging time and increasing “range and efficiency for electric vehicles by 30%.” This reminds us of Daniel 12:4b: “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
May we daily receive the inexhaustible power that comes from “the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13b). (By K. Farmer)
