Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).

In the name of Jesus lies a unique and unlimited, redeeming power. Only faith can grasp and experience this power. How would it otherwise be possible that everyone who calls on this name in faith is saved from eternal death? This is exactly what the prophet Joel says, “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered” (Joel 2:32). Such a person is also saved from the power of darkness, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness” (Colossians 1:13). All men are under the power of Satan on account of their sins, “He that committeth sin is of the devil” (1 John 3:8). As soon as a person calls upon the name of Jesus in faith, realizing the redeeming power of this name, his chains of sin are broken. Satan loses his hold on him; he may no longer touch such a person, “He that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not” (1 John 5:18). When Satan touches a born-again person, he is touching the Lord Himself, “He that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye” (Zechariah 2:8). Whoever calls in faith upon the name of the Lord, takes claim to the whole of the victory of Jesus.
