Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,  which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).

Where does true service lead? It leads in the footsteps of Jesus. “If any man serve me, let him follow me” (John 12:26). This way is the least problematic. Those who tread it belong to those who “follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth” (Revelation 14:4).  Problems come from conflicts, and conflicts come from our self. Our self does not want to serve but to rule. So those who want to serve must first tread the path with Jesus. There he will be delivered from his proud, defiant self. Where does this path begin? The Scriptures tell us this too, for Jesus continues, “And where I am, there shall also my servant be” (John 12:26). Where did He go? He went to the cross! Just as He gave Himself to God as a living sacrifice on the Cross, so the path of a servant of Jesus also begins with the giving of himself, the sacrificing of self on the altar, that is, on the cross. All service that is not done from the cross is empty and fruitless, but all service from the position of being crucified with Him contains infinite opportunities for blessing.
