Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow; and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?” (Mark 4:38).

This storm is a clear picture of the storm that rages in the life of each and every believer, between what we hear and what we believe. The way from theory of victory to practical experience of it is called faith, even during a stormy journey. But remember, child of God, that the storm only arises once Jesus is on board. It is because He is on board that this terrifying storm occurs! On the other hand, however, He is the guarantee that we will not perish.
There are negative and positive storms. Often it is the wrath of Satan which shakes us inwardly and outwardly, but it can also come from God, who is testing us to see if we cling to Him in faith. The storm that the disciples experienced here brought them into a desperate situation, because the waves not only beat against the ship but entered it, “…and the waves beat into the ship.” It is a great trial when the waves begin to beat around us, but when the “ship,” our innermost being, is affected, it becomes dark. Jesus is especially near to you in such situations. It says, “He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow.”
