Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee” (Mark 10:49).

There are innumerable “blind” people in our day who hear Jesus’ voice but cannot see Him. Among these are the depressed. Perhaps your vision of Him is obscured because there is darkest night inside you. The Bible does not speak to you as it used to do. Your heart is so heavy that you cannot even pray properly. Then listen, I have a comforting message for you: Jesus of Nazareth is passing by right now! He knows everything! Take advantage of this unique opportunity. Call on Him, just as this blind man did. If you cannot pray aloud, then cry to Him in your heart, “Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me” (verse 47). He hears you, even if you are in the midst of a crowd.  Blind Bartimaeus did not let himself be deterred, and Jesus stood still on account of him, just as He is standing still if you call upon Him. Did the Lord Jesus heal the blind man immediately? No, Bartimaeus had to go right up to Him first. Did He then open His eyes so that he could see? No, first He demanded proof of his faith. Bartimaeus understood this and said, “Lord, that
I might receive my sight” (verse 51). And Jesus said to him, “Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.” He also wants to hear from you just what you desire of Him.
