Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible” (1 Corinthians 9:24-25).

How do we get this incorruptible crown? Through doing without things. Paul uses the picture of the Olympic games. The athletes give up all that could hinder their running and do everything that helps it, in order to receive a corruptible crown. My dear reader, ask yourself in everything you do, can I serve Jesus better by doing it? Then you will know what you have to do and what not to do. The measure for our spiritual lives can be found in Colossians 3:17, “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Can you complain in the name of Jesus? No. How easy and glorious a life is that is completely centered on Jesus. Keep that which you have, for “If a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully”
(2 Timothy 2:5). Follow the Lord determinedly. Dedicate your life, your heart, your gifts, your time and your strength to Him. Then your eyes will one day see the King in His beauty.
