“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15-16).

Why “Holiness unto the Lord”?

1. Because He is holy! Who are you following if you are a follower of Jesus? The Holy Spirit. There is no other sphere of life that has more chance to sin than the sphere of our relationship with God. Here truth and lies lie very close together. Many bless with their tongues, but they curse with their hearts. Some have faith but no works of faith, while some have no faith but they have works. Aaron’s wonderful high-priestly costume, the white mitre, the precious stones on his breastplate, the golden signet on his forehead, his presence in the sanctuary—all were the outward expression of his inner attitude of heart: “Holiness unto the Lord”!

2. Because you are His property. It is very moving how often the Lord repeats this in Exodus 28. In verse 1, “…that he may minister unto me”; verse 3, “…that he may minister unto me”; verse 4, “…that he may minister unto me”; and verse 41, “…that they may minister unto me.” This clearly documents that “Holiness unto the Lord” is actually the expression of the love of the Lord: “You belong to Me!”
