Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).
Can a Christian be lost? Those who have come to believe in the Lord are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, which is a deposit, a down payment for the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth. A person who has received the Holy Spirit is saved forever. The Lord Jesus says in John 10:28 that nobody will pluck His sheep out of His hand, and He confirms this in verse 29 with the words, “No man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” Now the question arises, what if I sin in spite of this wonderful position as a child of God? John answers in 1 John 2:1, “And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” The born-again Christian is redeemed from the guilt and power of sin, but not from the presence of sin. The Bible warns us urgently that through our conscious disobedience, we can lose our reward. Our salvation we receive freely, but we receive the reward only if we are fully surrendered to Him. We can attain the reward only when we follow Jesus faithfully in all of our work and walk.
