Two Special Anniversaries

By Eberhard and Rosmarie Hanisch, Bolivia

Celebrating a long-standing milestone anniversary at our school, both officially and individually.

Last year, we celebrated the founding of Elim School. Students, teachers, missionaries, local officials, and parents celebrated its 50th anniversary. The teachers identify deeply with the school, so it was a major event for them that required months of planning. Public officials were also invited, and there were sports events, a chess competition, exhibits, performances of all kinds, and an evening lantern procession through the streets.

Two celebrations were organized. One was just for students. At the second—which included parents, teachers, and local officials— Eberhard proclaimed God’s Word. Most of all, it was important to us that we magnify God’s consistent providence and give the Lord all the glory for it. The secular authorities may not see it the same way, but it is truly the grace and help of God that has enabled us to pass down His Word for so long, shaping our students in it. Boarding school students contributed a song to the festivities, other students performed a successful pantomime with a clear message, and individual children also performed.

Personally, we were able to look back on the 30 years that have passed since we first made our home in the jungle town of Riberalta. We’re very grateful to the Lord for all these years of service. At this time, we’d also like to express our deep gratitude for your financial support and prayers—for every kind of encouragement. These things allow us to continue the work here in Bolivia.
