Masons

Dear Mr. Froese,

I would like to respond to the letter written by the elderly sister in the December issue of Midnight Call. She had written to you concerning an “active” Mason in her church who is serving her holy communion. The verb “active” lets one know that this man has not renounced and repented from his involvement in Baal worship, to which the Lord has said: “And I do not want you to be partners with demons. You cannot drink from the Lord’s cup and also from the cup of demons; you cannot eat at the Lord’s Table, and also at the table of demons” (1 Corinthians 10:20-21).

I, too, would also be very uncomfortable knowing someone who is involved in witchcraft was serving me the Lord’s Supper. This man cannot be a “brother” when he is clearly involved in the occult. An “active” Mason prays to the “Great Architect of the Universe,” who is Baphomet, the old god of Baal worship and Masonry. Of course, most Masons don’t learn of “Baphomet” until they get to the highest degrees. Albert Pike, the Grand Commander and a 33rd-degree Mason, taught that Satan is the god of Masonry. Masonry is a dark spiritual force that blends ungodly religions. When a man joins this form of Baal worship, he brings spiritual death to his church and family. One cannot be an active Mason and a Christian at the same time.

While we are not to judge another person’s heart, we are permitted to judge cultic practices and doctrine according to the Word of God; otherwise, we would also be led astray. The Lord Jesus commanded to “judge righteous judgment” (John 7:24). He told a man, “Thou hast rightly judged” (Luke 7:43). To others our Lord asked: “why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?” (Luke 7:43). And Paul the apostle declared: “He that is spiritual judgeth all things” (1 Corinthians 2:15). It is our positive duty to judge what is not of God.

I do feel compassion for Masons who do not realize what they have gotten themselves into. Both my father and grandfather were Masons. They need to be shown the truth with all the facts about Freemasonry, and then make a decision: Will it be to serve a pagan god or the Lord Jesus Christ? There are no in-betweens as far as God is concerned. Pastors who condone or allow “active” Masons in the church without speaking the truth in love will be held accountable as stated in Ezekiel 33:6: “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.”

May we all become better educated about things that creep into the Church that greatly displease our Lord.

Answer: First Corinthians 10:20-21 applies to Christians who have “fellowship with devils.” Anyone who belongs to or practices other religions such as Freemasonry should take notice of this very serious Scripture. But verses 7-10 also mention that idolaters, fornicators, tempters of Christ and murmurers should not partake of the Lord’s Table. The Apostle Paul wrote: “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup” (1 Corinthians 11:28).

Incidentally, we are currently reprinting an updated version of Keith Harris’ book, The Masonic/Christian Conflict Explained, which should be available at the end of this month.
