EU - Solar Surpasses Coal as Energy Source

Arno Froese

Solar energy has become the EU’s fastest-growing power source, contributing 11% to its supply. Overall, strong growth in solar and wind have boosted the share of renewables to 47%, up from 34% in 2019.

The European Green Deal, enacted in 2019, has been pivotal in accelerating the EU’s transition to clean energy.

Soaring gas prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine also forced Europe to turn to renewable energy, seeking cheaper, cleaner alternatives.

“This is sending a clear message that their energy needs are going to be met through clean power, not gas imports,” said Pieter de Pous, a Brussels-based energy analyst at European think tank E3G.

Arno's Commentary

Europe is again at the forefront. It is divided into 44 independent, sovereign states, of which 27 make up the European Union.

When one examines history a century or two ago, war was the normal condition. When one war ended, the next started. Literally hundreds, if not thousands of wars were fought on the continent throughout the last two millenniums. Today, Europe considers itself the safest, richest, and securest continent on earth.

Here we must mention Russia’s war against Ukraine, which until now has shown Russia unable to conquer Ukraine. There are good reasons to believe that this war will see a negotiated end.

Now we come to the end times, and here we are thinking of Revelation 18:3: “For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” The key to Europe’s peace and prosperity is merchandise.

A word of explanation for “all nations.” To the west there is America (North & South), in which Europeans established 35 sovereign states. To the south lies the continent of Africa, with 54 independent nations, mostly founded on European principles. To the east is Asia, with 49 sovereign countries. The fifth continent, Australia, as well as New Zealand can be considered European states. Incidentally, according to a Google search, the only nation not colonialized in Asia was Thailand.

What do they all have in common? One word: merchandise. That is what maintains peace to a certain degree, and it will continue to grow exponentially. Yet based on Bible prophecy, this will all come to an end: “The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing” (Revelation 18:15).
