PERU - New Chinese Megaport Planned

Arno Froese

From the cliffs above Chancay, you can see the port. The gentle roar of the surf blends with the rumble of giant blue automatic cranes loading and unloading container ships, and of construction machinery, as a titanic project takes shape nearby.

VCM chose this site because the water here is deep enough for container ships with a capacity of 18,000 TEU. and its location allows for a straight-line 17,000km route to Shanghai, so the voyage takes just 23 days—12 days less than the usual routes. This represents a logistical cost saving of 20% which is reflected in the prices of goods transiting the port.

In 2019 VCM significantly expanded its original plans after teaming up with the Chinese state-owned port operator Cosco Shipping Ports (CSP), which is also the world’s fourth-largest shipping company and dominates container transport in the Pacific.

The port is one of the largest Latin American infrastructure projects China has invested in. When complete, it will accommodate 24,000-TUE ships and handle over three million containers per year. The first phase covers 141 hectares [348 acres].

Arno's Commentary

The giant in the east, China, is seen awakening. At this time, they already dominate over 30% of the world’s manufacturing output, compared to the US’s 15%.

Many ask, why is communist China so successful? One word: diversity, both politically and economically. China has implemented a communist-socialist-capitalist system, which is set to dominate the world economy—that according to several respected sources.

However, we think differently. Why? Because, according to prophecy, the last gentile world empire is Rome. That is not limited to Italy or Europe alone, but encompasses the entire world.

One just needs to look back a couple of centuries ago: European leaders from different nations, kingdoms, and empires sent out their navies and literally conquered the world. We must not forget that the 35 sovereign nations established on the American continent (North and South) are European-based.

We know that it was the Roman Empire that prepared the world for the birth of the Messiah, and later the spread of the Gospel.

We note that two years after Israel was established, the Schuman Declaration paved the way for the European Coal and Steel Community, established in 1951. Later in 1992, the Maastricht Treaty was signed, creating the European Union.

Yet we must emphasize the end: “Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure” (Daniel 2:45).
