POLAND - European Digital Health Revolution

J. Froese

Poland intends to use its presidency to promote European solutions in digital healthcare transformation while working towards establishing common standards for medical data at the EU level.

“Healthcare digitalization in Poland is an area that may be of interest to the European Union. We have good solutions we can promote internationally,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Health Katarzyna Kacperczyk during the conference, highlighting Poland’s successes in this field.

Poland can boast achievements in healthcare digitalization, including its e-prescription system, the Patient Internet Account, and the e-referral system. These solutions proved particularly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling patients to access medical services remotely.

One goal is to develop common standards for medical data exchange that will enable better cooperation between healthcare systems in different member states.

The Ministry of Digitalization also announced that during its presidency, Poland will promote the development of artificial intelligence in healthcare, cybersecurity in the medical sector, and innovative telemedicine solutions.

“We want our experiences in healthcare digitalization to contribute to building more resilient and effective health systems throughout the European Union. Digital transformation is an opportunity to improve the accessibility and quality of medical services for all Europeans,” Kacperczyk remarked.

Commentary

Despite the tight integration between the nations of the European Union, there are nonetheless significant differences in various domains. After all, they are still 27 independent, sovereign states.

In this case, it’s regarding medical health records and the associated digitalization of healthcare systems. Interestingly, many of the richer (Western European) countries are still stuck with old, inefficient systems. Fax machines are still widely used in Germany, for instance. Meanwhile, some of the formerly communist countries such as Poland, and particularly Estonia, have leapfrogged the rest of the EU in embracing digital technology, as they have had to build back public service competencies from scratch.

Whether this Polish-led digitalization push will be successful is yet to be seen, but it demonstrates a clear trend of harmonization and unification between nations in the European Union—and, in fact, around the world. This brings to mind the end-time prophecies about the final one-world power described in Daniel 2 and Revelation 13, which will encompass “all kindreds, and tongues, and nations” (Rev. 13:7b). -By J.
