Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).

As the fifth effect of the death of Jesus, we will consider its effect on death itself. Death is a cruel reality. Many of you have experienced this when you stood by the grave of a loved one. The Lord Jesus never ignored the reality of death. When He came to raise His friend Lazarus, who had been lying in his tomb for four days, He wept. But there is another wonderful reality; namely, the overpowering of death through the death of the Lord Jesus. Although you are getting older every day, you have the promise of Psalm 92:14: “They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.” According to the words of the apostle Paul, you are getting younger all the time inwardly, “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16). Such a person has eternal youth, for in Psalm 103:5 it says that one’s youth is renewed like the eagle’s. This is the wonderful part: Jesus Christ has reconciled us with God through His death. He has delivered us from the power of Satan. He has saved us from the nature of this world and has given us eternal life.
