Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“…Redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16).

This is a great contradiction: modern man wrestles with time and laments over lack of time, although he can produce significantly more with available technology. Time is a relative term. One person can accomplish in minutes that which for others takes hours. When Paul says we should redeem the time, he wants to emphasize that we should give our brief, appointed time eternal value. How can we do this? First, by leading a faithful prayer life. We should not pray occasionally but faithfully and regularly. Daniel redeemed his time properly during his life. The eternal value of his life is striking. Why? Because he was a man of prayer. He prayed three times a day, at regular times. That is why eternity and infinite things broke through in his life.
A person who prays can also be still. The devil fears this, which is why Paul says, “Study to be quiet.” When we are still, the Spirit of God speaks to us, convicts us, and judges us, and we may claim the blood of Jesus over past sins that we have forgotten. That’s part of redeeming the time, our time, before it is too late.
