Spiritual Strength For Each Day
To whom shall we come? To Jesus! This means that we should accept His invitation, which is valid up to the present day, “Come unto me!” You may ask, “Does that apply to me?” Yes, for He also said, “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37). Jesus not only invites you to come to Him, but He also comes to you! When Jesus once walked by the pool of Bethesda, He saw a paralyzed man who had been lying there in despair for 38 years, and Jesus asked him, “Wilt thou be made whole?” (John 5:6). The man replied in his resignation, “Sir, I have no man…” (verse 7), whereupon Jesus gave him the wonderful answer that liberated him from his despair, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk” (verse 8). Why did Jesus ask this man whether he wanted to be made well? Because He, the Son of God, never said a word too many or too few, this must have had a definite, profound reason. The body of this man had been paralyzed for so long because his spirit was contaminated by sin. How do I know that? I know it from Jesus’ statement that He made afterwards in the temple to the man he had healed, “Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee” (verse 14).
