Spiritual Strength For Each Day

The river Jordan represents in a wonderful way the death of the Lord Jesus. We see it here as the only basis for victory over all the power of the enemy. The Lord commanded the children of Israel to drive out all the inhabitants of Canaan and to destroy all their idols. But first He says, “When ye are passed over Jordan….” From this we learn how to overcome: not toward the cross, toward victory, but from His cross, from His accomplished victory! Believe it, child of God, “It is finished!” (John 19:30). If you rest in this finished work, if you are united with Jesus on the cross, then your life of victory will begin, and not the other way around. You do not have to try to gradually be crucified with Him, but set your feet now in faith on this victorious ground. This is exactly what it says in Romans 6:6, “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him.” Why? Paul continues, “…that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
