Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me”
(John 15:4).
There is a saying which is also applicable to spiritual history, and that is “History repeats itself.” That which Israel experienced in olden days, is taking place again today, though spiritually. Israel lived for over 400 years under foreign rule in Egypt. Then the Israelites were led, through the blood of a lamb, with a mighty hand out of Egypt through the Red Sea, “as by dry land” (Hebrews 11:29). Then they entered into the wilderness. There it became dark around them, because they had withdrawn themselves from the lordship of God over them. This was so at that time, and it is so today. I look at Israel as in the desert on their way to the Promised Land. Now read what Jesus says to us, “He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5). What did the Lord mean by this? Many people do much without Jesus. We can also do many things without Him, but if we do not live under the lordship of Jesus Christ, if we do not remain in Jesus in all that we do, and have no true fellowship with Him, it is all in vain. The greatest absurdity is a life without fellowship with Jesus.
