Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“He answered him nothing” (Luke 23:9).
This silence of the Lord is strange and moving. Why didn’t He answer the false accusations? There can only be one reason: Jesus knew. My Father knows! Moses also, when he was attacked by his own sister and brother, was silent and did not open his mouth. But the Lord justified him. We are called to follow Jesus in this also; that means not returning insult for insult, but being silent. How much can be destroyed by one single word! Never fight flesh with flesh. You do not need to worry about your reputation, nor how your character is judged, for the Lord knows you and He judges you. You do yourself great harm if you attempt to build up your prestige. Be still! One violent response causes the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit to be silent. Are you misunderstood? Are your good intentions wrongly interpreted? This will not harm you. God Himself says to you in His Word, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn” (Isaiah 54:17).
