Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. He is my refuge: my God; in him will I trust” (Psalm 91:1-2).

Just as man-made and so-called natural catastrophes take place, there are also inward (spiritual) catastrophes. Most of us are oblivious of this. Even many Christians are unaware inwardly. It is striking how the Lord always spoke of the inward things first. When Noah had to build the ark, for instance, the Lord commanded him to, “Pitch it within and without with pitch” (Genesis 6:14). This goes against our logic. We would say, “First it must be sealed from the outside, so that if there is a danger of water, it will be watertight.” But here it says expressly that it must be done first “within” and then “without.” We all take great care that our outward appearance is in order, but we take less care that our inner being is protected and kept by the blood of Jesus. Thus, as children of God, we often go through unnecessary suffering that is not for Jesus’ sake.
