Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost…” (Jude 20).
Prayer in the Holy Spirit is a mystery. This prayer has the guarantee of being heard, because its origin is not in us but in the heart of God. When we begin to contemplate on this and grasp it with our understanding and our spirit, we will no longer dare to be negligent in intercession and worship. Samuel, the servant of the Lord, realized this when he said to the people of Israel at the end of his service, “God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you” (1 Samuel 12:23).
Praying in the Holy Spirit is something so great, so tremendous, that the apostle Paul described it in the following words, “…We know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26).
If it is really the case that it is not we who are praying but the Spirit of God through us, then we understand that true prayer comes from God and, by means of His Spirit, goes through the one who prays to the object of his prayer, and then returns to God. That is “praying in the Holy Spirit.”
