Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Sing aloud unto God our strength…the pleasant harp with the psaltery” (Psalm 81:1-2).

The Word of the Lord is so timeless, so topical, because it is the eternal Word for all times. In the above Scripture, Israel is told to sing joyfully and to play all kinds of musical instruments. There are many Bible verses that continually remind us of the redemption that took place. In Psalm 81:7, the Lord reminds His people how He hears prayer, “Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah.”

Why does the Lord continually remind us? Why did He command Israel to tell their children and grandchildren of His miracles, and to write His commandments on the doorposts of their houses? Because He knows how forgetful we are. This is why He reminds His people today that He hears our prayers. The fact that we do not pray more proves how forgetful we are. Letting ourselves go without prayer gives the enemy the opportunity to outwit us. Because the Lord is the eternally unchanging One, He wants to hear our prayers now. He hears the cries of the righteous and fulfills the desire of them that fear Him.
