Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37).

Many years ago, a postage stamp was issued in Israel in remembrance of the soldiers fallen in the wars. One depicted an Israeli soldier with his battle gear and tallit (prayer shawl). Can the power of prayer be portrayed better? Hardly. The fighter prays. If your prayer life does not keep up with the battle to which you have been assigned, you will be overcome. Woe betide us if we proclaim the Word of God without having wrestled on our knees beforehand! All children of God are kings and priests, but in their service, which should be kingly and priestly, there is often a bitter lack of holy influence. I fear that in our activity for the Lord, there is too much of the business-like planning of a manager. Whoever has anything at all to say or proclaim in the kingdom of God, can only be a servant of Christ and not a servant of man if he prays. So pray, therefore. Pray then when you are full of despondency over your unfortunate plight, for it says, “In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul” (Psalm 138:3).
