“And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush” (Exodus 3:2).

Where does the Lord meet us?
• In the desert, in solitude. Moses had been cut off from his nation’s relationship.
• On the mountain of God, on Horeb. Horeb means desert. If you feel as though there is a comfortless, empty desert in your heart, then the Lord is closest to you.
How does the Lord meet us?
• As the eternal, righteous God. “And he looked, and, behold, the bush was burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed” (Exodus 3:2). The flame of His righteousness never burns out, but He reveals Himself also as the God of eternal love. His love never ends.
• In His Word. Moses’ ignorance reveals a great tragedy. Although the Lord was so near to him, he did not recognize Him. He even said, “I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned” (Exodus 3:3). There was only one way to wake Moses out of his ignorance: His Word! God called out of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses” (verse 4). And he answered, “Here am I.” It was God’s speaking to him directly that convinced him of the reality of the presence of God…
