Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace” (Psalm 39:12).
God’s silence in our lives can have various reasons; for instance when, in spite of our prayers, we do not want to accept the whole truth. “But Jesus held his peace” (Matthew 26:63). The high priest, who was questioning Jesus, wanted to believe a lie and not recognize Him as “the truth.” They “… sought false witness against Jesus” (verse 59). The trouble with many believers is that they pray to the Lord for help and tell Him how they long to be sanctified, but they are not willing to be obedient to the light the Lord gives them concerning their inner nature. Then the Lord is silent, and His silence is the most profound answer.
Another reason for His silence is when He has nothing more to say. “Then he [Herod] questioned with him [Jesus] in many words; but he answered him nothing” (Luke 23:9). King Herod thought he could have an interesting discussion with Jesus, the King of all kings, but Jesus “…answered him nothing.” Why not? Because Herod was not interested in a meeting with Jesus in his heart. Is this the reason that you do not receive an answer? Do you want His miracles or do you want Him? Do you want the help or the Helper?
