Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus” (Romans 15:5).

If we put on the patience of the Lord, the written Word of God will give us the comfort of the Scriptures so that we have a living hope. If we let the Word of God work in our hearts, we will experience, as a miracle of His grace, the Word, as God Himself gives us the wonderful gift of true unity among ourselves. When we read the above verse carefully, we see that it is God who gives us this comfort through Jesus Christ. It is very moving how the Lord Jesus assures His disciples before leaving them that His Father will give them another Comforter after He leaves. This other Comforter is the Holy Spirit. In connection with this wonderful promise, the Lord Jesus points indirectly to the time when He will return to rapture us. As long as the other Comforter, the Holy Spirit is on earth, the Lord cannot return. But as soon as this Comforter ascends into heaven, in and with the Church, Jesus will come to meet us in the air.
