Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ” (Ephesians 1:12).

When we speak of the fact that we should be “to the praise of His glory,” we are treading on very neglected territory in the Church. When I put it in these words, I am thinking of what the Lord said at the end of His life, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one” (John 17:22).  God the Lord has ordained that we should be to the praise of His glory through Jesus Christ. Through the prophet Isaiah, He says it even more directly to each one of us personally, “Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord” (Isaiah 62:3). If we are truly crucified with Christ, we are able to enter into the infinite depth and breadth of the exalted person of the Eternal God. In this position we are transported into the eternal spheres of rejoicing, and this praise and worship draws us out of all depression and unhappiness, strengthens our weak knees, and causes the Lord to place our feet on the Rock which neither moves nor trembles. In this way we are to the praise of His glory, for praise and worship are the highest expression of faith.
