You can only thank God at all times and for everything if you really believe that the Lord means well with you. The Lord God leads you personally, because He never repeats Himself in the way He leads the individual. The Lord rejects your comparison with the way in which He leads another as resistance to His personal leading. This comparison expressed in your question, “Lord, why me?” reveals your rebellion against the way in which He wants to lead you personally. Through such questions, your character is not transformed for good, but it becomes characterized by spiritual decline revealed as self-pity and envy. From envy comes mistrust, and from mistrust estrangement, and from estrangement hatred—and the devil rejoices. Begin now to thank the Lord for the way in which He leads you, for it is the best way for you. Then you will rise above your circumstances and be able to rejoice.
