Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Here God’s call to you is clearly described. This call is actually a personal one: He is calling you to be sanctified, to be set apart for His holy service. In other words, to walk in the good works which God has ordained for you (cf. Ephesians 2:10). This is why Paul says that to be “wholly” sanctified is God’s calling to give yourself wholly to Him. In other words, sanctification means an intensive, complete concentration on the will of God for your life, so that all the powers of the body, soul and spirit are prepared for God’s goal and purpose. We generally take the expression “sanctification” far too lightly. I want to ask you, are you ready to pay the price of sanctification? It will cost you a great narrowing down of your earthly interests, but an immense enlarging of all your interest in God’s cause.
