Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones” (Ephesians 5:30).

The deepest concerns of our hearts, whether they are good or bad, are furthered when we sleep. We often say, “I’ll sleep on it.” Adam, the first man, had a great problem. He was a person alone. And what did God do?

“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof” (Genesis 2:21).

Through this, Adam’s problem of being alone was solved. This is also a wonderful prophetic pointer to the “last Adam,” Jesus Christ. On the cross at Calvary, He sank into the sleep of death. One of the soldiers pierced His side, “and forthwith came there out blood and water” (John 19:34). The Bride of the Lamb came out of this. It is written, “This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ” (1 John 5:6). The water points to the “washing of water by the word” and the “washing of regeneration” spoken of in Ephesians 5:26 and Titus 3:5. And from the blood of Jesus Christ, His poured out life, came the Bride of the Lamb.
